Boiled Icing
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
1 egg white
1/2 tsp. flavoring
1 tsp. baking powder
Boil sugar and water without stirring until syrup spins a thread; pour very slowly over stiffly beaten egg white and beat until smooth; add flavoring and baking powder. Allow to stand a few minutes before spreading.
1/2 tsp. of cream tartar may be added instead of the baking powder.
