Mrs. Mallory's Sour Milk Cake

I don't know who Mrs. Mallory is, but this is the type of recipe that drives those of us who need exact measurements crazy. Of course grandma wouldn't have thought twice about it - everything was a pinch of this, dash of that.

1 cup sugar
1 cup sour milk
1 Tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. soda
vanilla

Add enough flour to make quite thick. Bake in a moderate overn.
