Tomato Cake

Cream 1/2 cup shortening, add 1 cup sugar and blend well. Add slowly 1 1/4 cup of canned tomato soup in which 3/4 tsp. soda has been dissolved. Stir in 2 cups of flour, sifted with 2 tsp. baking powder, 2 tsp. nutmeg, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. salt. Mix just enough to blend well. Fold in 1 cup chopped raisins or dates and 1 cup broken nut meats dredged with 2 Tbsp. flour. Pour in a greased, floured loaf pan about 8x13 and bake in a moderate oven about 350 degrees. When cold cover with the following frosting.

Cheese Frosting
Beat 1 pkg. cream cheese until smooth. Add 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar gradually, beating constantly. Flavor with a few drops of vanilla.
