Chocolate Oatmeal Cake

1 cup rolled oats, uncooked quick or old fashioned
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix rolled oats and boiling water - let cool. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add oatmeal mixture along with flour, cocoa, soda, salt and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Bake in 8 inch square pan greased and floured at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. This is a delicious moist chocolate cake and freezes well.
