Jam Cake

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 cup jam
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs one at a time and beat well. Add jam and beat well again. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternatively with buttermilk. Bake in two 9-inch round pans at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.
