Banana Upside-down Cake

Grease sides of pan. Cream together 1/3 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Spread over bottom of pan. Place sliced bananas over this sugar mixture. Dot with marachino cherries.

Cake batter
Cream together 1/2 cup shortening amd 1 1/4 cups sugar. Add 2 beaten eggs.
Sift together:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Add alternately to shortening/sugar mixture with mixture of:
1 cup mashed bananas
1/2 cup sour milk

Add 1 tsp. vanilla. Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 385 degrees for 50 minutes. Turn out on cake rack to cool. Serve with topping of whipped cream.
