Gingerbread

1 1/2 cups flou
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup dark molasses
1 egg, slightly beaten

Sift dry ingredients together (flour, salt, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice). Combine shortening and boiling water in large bowl; blend in brown sugar, molasses and egg. Add dry ingredients gradually. Pour batter into greased 9-inch square pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.

Great served warm with whipped cream.
