Chocolate Applesauce Cupcakes

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
1 cup applesauce
1 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1/3 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1 tsp. water
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar, add egg. Add egg and applesauce and dry ingredients. Add soda dissolved in water and beat well. Bake at 350 degrees until done.
