Corn Fritters

1 1/3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup cream style corn
1 egg, unbeaten

Sift dry ingredients together, add corn and unbeated egg. Mix only until ingredients are well moistened. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls in deep hot shortening and fry until a rich brown and done throughout. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with syrup or dust with confectioner's sugar.
