Apple Cake

1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. lard
1/2 cup water

Sift flour, baking powder, nutmeg, salt, and sugar together. Cut in lard. Add water and stir briskly. Roll dough out on floured board to thickness of pie crust and line a large shallow pan. Slice tart apples and spread all over the bottom of lined pan. Over the apples sprinkle sugar, and either cinnamon or nutmeg to taste. Over the top of this place butter in small dots at regular spaces. Bake until apples are tender.
