Nut Bread

1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg, well beaten
pinch salt
3 1/2 cups flour
1 lb. English walnuts
2 tsp. baking powder

Beat well the sugar, milk, egg, salt, and 3 cups of the flour. Sift together remaining 1/2 cup flour and baking powder; mix with nuts and then add to first mixture. Let stand in warm place until it rises, then bake in a moderate oven about 40 minutes.
