Chocolate Cake

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup milk (sweet or sour)
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
dash vanilla
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder

Mix altogether and beat. Bake in hot oven for 45 minutes.
