Banana Upside-down Cake

Grease sides of pan. Cream together 1/3 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Spread on bottom of pan. Place sliced bananas over this sugar mixture. Dot with marachino cherries.

Cake Batter
1/3 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup mashed bananas
1/2 cup sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Sift together dry ingredients and add to mixture alternately with bananas, milk, and vanilla. Pour into prepared pan and bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes. Turn out on cake rack to cool. Top with whipping cream and serve.
