Bread & Butter Pickles

25 medium sized cucumbers
8 cups sliced onions
1/2 cup salt
6 cups ice water
4 cups vinegar
2 cups sugar
1 Tbsp. celery seed
1 Tbsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. powdered tumeric
2 tsp. powdered ginger

Wash but do not pare cucumbers, peel onions, slice both about 1/4 inch thick. Add salt and ice water to cover and let stand 3 hours. Combine spics, heat to boiling. Drain cucumbers and onions, add spices and cook 5 minutes. Seal boiling hot in jars.
