Corn Fritters

1 1/3 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1 cup cream style corn
1 egg, unbeaten

Sift dry ingredients together, add corn and unbeaten egg. Mix only until ingredients are well moistened. Drop by teaspoonfuls in deep hot shortening until a rich brown and throughout. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with syrup or dusted with confectioner's sugar. Makes about 18 fritters.
